Proscaline: What is it?

One psychoactive member of the phenethylamine class is proscaline. The effects of this synthetic substance are comparable to those of the more widely used mescaline.

An ethyl chain connects the phenyl ring of proscaline, also known chemically as 3,5-dimethoxy-4-propyloxyphenethylamine, to a -NH2 amino group. Proscaline is composed of two functional groups: an additional propyloxy group at the carbon R4 in the phenyl ring and CH3O-, a functional group that is drawn to carbon atoms R3 and R5. Compared to escaline, another chemical that is similar to the mescaline analog, proscaline has one more carbon atom on its alkyloxy group since it is the 4-propyloxy analog of mescaline.
